Fri 05/10/12 - T.G.I.F.

Aamulla lähdin taas Pontypriddiin. Hyvin hiljainen sukkulakyyti, niin kuin oli sitten paluukyytikin, mutta pääsinpähän taas ilmaiseksi sinne ja takaisin. Päivän aluksi oli noin kolmen tunnin palaveri, johon kuului tupakoinnin vastaisen kamppanjan arviointia ja jatkosuunnittelua, tilastoja, tulevien koulutuksien esittelyä ja muuta sellaista jännittävää. Hädin tuskin tuolillani pysyin - syy pääasiallisesti tosin siinä, että istuinosa oli irti.

Iltapäivällä pääsinkin sitten aivan toisenlaiseen puuhaan: Sain kantaa laatikkoa täynnä dildoja ja pitää huolen, että niistä ei yhtäkään varastettaisi! Mietin, että tässä on se syy, miksi hakeuduin alalle ja tämän takia olen käynyt kolme vuotta koulua. Kyseessä oli siis ehkäisyopetusta 14-15-vuotiaille. En ole itse koskaan kuullut terkan pitämää ehkäisyopetusta, joten mikäs siinä oli istuessa. Tunnin lopuksi oppilaat saivat harjoitella kondomin asettamista paikoilleen, mikä oli siis syy dildoille eli "kondomin havainnollistajille". Oppilaiden ilme oli kyllä korvaamaton, kun laatikko avattiin ja jaoimme kumifallokset sekä kondomit pöytiin. Opettajakin häkeltyi aluksi.

Siirsin tasatunnein lähtevää paluukyytiäni tunnilla myöhemmäksi, koska minulle sanottiin, etten ehtisi siihen aiempaan. Tuntui hyvältä päivän päätteeksi seisoa vesisateessa tunti ja seitsemän minuuttia odottaessani kyytiäni... Onneksi laukusta löytyi salmiakkia! ❤

Susanna-raukkaa pidetään liian suuria tuntimääriä osastolla. Kellekään ei oikein ole tämä vaihto-ohjelman yleissäännöt selvillä. Itse ajattelemme, että jos kerran teemme Suomeen opintopisteitä, niin luonnollisesti teemme myös Suomen vaatimuksia vastaavan työmäärän. Täällä suhtautuminen on toisinaan hieman erilainen. Kukaan ei tiedä, eikä nyt viikonloppuna jaksa oikein päätään asialla vaivatakaan.

In the morning I left for Pontypridd again. Very quiet shuttle ride, similar to the return but at least I got there and back again for free. At first we had a 3-hour-meeting which consisted of anti-smoking campaign's appraisal and some planning, statistics, introduction of future training possibilities and other exciting things like that. I hardly managed to stay on my chair - mostly because the seat was loose.

In the afternoon I was given a completely different kind of job. I was to carry around a box full of dildos and to make sure that none of them gets nicked! I was wondering that there was the reason why I had applied for nursing and this is where my three years of studying had finally taken me. The actual occasion in the afternoon was contraception session for 14-15-year-olds. I've never listened through a session like that held by a school nurse so I was happy just sitting there. At the end of the lesson the students were allowed to practice how to put the condom on - which was the reason for the dildos aka "condom demonstrators". The expressions on the kids' faces were priceless when the box was opened and they were given the rubber phalli and the condoms. Even the teacher was baffled at first.


I changed my return ride (which leaves hourly) an hour later because I was told that I would not make it in time otherwise. It felt remarkable at the end of the day to wait for the shuttle bus in the rain for an hour and seven minutes... Luckily I had salmiakki in my bag! ❤

Poor Susanna is kept at the ward too large amount of hours. No one really knows the common rules of the exchange program. We think that since we are doing practical training for Finland and earning credits there, we naturally should do the amount of work that Finnish school system requires of us. The local people don't always see these things the same way. No one knows but since it's weekend now, we don't really care at the moment either.
