Thailand - day 50 (MHS)

Elina lähti Chiang Maihin pääsiäislomaa viettämään. Minä olen menossa sinne ensi viikonloppuna uusimaan viisumia, joten olen nyt tämän loman kotosalla. Sain päivän kulumaan ensin lyhennetyllä koulupäivällä, lounaan jälkeen Kivisillä oli pääsiäiskahvit ja tarjolla Katriinan aamuisen kotitaloustunnin tuotosta, maustekakkua. Kahvin jälkeen Elina vietiin lentokentälle ja kävimme samalla reissulla 7-Elevenissä ja Kad Gamissa, joka on paikallinen sekatavarakauppa, mutta hieman syrjässä päätieltä (ehkä 500m), joten harvemmin tulee käytyä. Huono selitys, tiedän... Minä vain rakastan 7-Eleveniä niin PALJON!
Kävin lainaamassa Kivisiltä kaksi DVD:tä: Kikin lähettipalvelun ja Naapurini Totoron (Tonari no Totoro). Tarkoitus oli katsoa toinen tänään ja toinen huomenna, mutta tarina ei lopu tähän. Olin ehtinyt aloittaa Kikiä ehkä 15 minuuttia, kun ovelleni koputettiin. Siellä oli kaksi virpojaa pukeutuneena ja kauniisti koristellut oksansa mukanaan. Ei ole enää palmusunnuntai, mutta ei se todellakaan haitannut. Kiirastorstai käy ihan yhtä hyvin. Minä pidän virpomisperinteestä. Tuo muistoja mieleen... Tytöt ottivat palkkiokarkkinsa ja jäivät hetkeksi juttelemaan, kunnes lähtivät. Janette-paran asuun kuului villapaita. Ilmasto ei ole ehtinyt niin roimasti muuttua ja täällä on siis yhä edelleen kuuma!
Sitten tytöt lähtivät. Timo kävi ilmoittamassa, ettei netti toimi... yllätys, taaskaan! Meidän ulkokeittiömme valo puolestaan pelaa. Se ei syty koskaan iltaisin, mutta aina klo 11-13. Päätimme Timon kanssa, että jos se tänään palaa koko päivän, eikä sammu illalla niin annamme sen palaa, kunnes se palaa loppuun. Ja nyt kello on jotain jo huomisen puolella ja kyllä se vain palaa edelleen.
Virpojien jälkeen jatkoin Kikin lähettipalvelua ja juuri, kun se oli loppulaulussaan, ovelle koputettiin uudelleen. Rosita ja Janette olivat vaihtaneet vaatteensa ja tulivat uudelleen käymään mehupullon ja kolmen maustekakkupalan kanssa. Söimme heidän tuomansa tuliaiset ja päätimme katsoa myös Naapurini Totoron – tytöt oikeastaan päättivät ja minä en laittanut vastaan. Soitin luonnollisesti ensin tyttöjen äidiltä luvan tähän. Kaksi Hayao Miyazakia yhdelle päivälle oli kyllä ihan riittämiin, vaikka kyllähän se aika niiden kanssa meni.
Nyt olen täällä taas luokkahuoneessa torakoiden ahdisteltavana. Tänään, omaksi nolostuksekseni, säikähdin ekaa kertaa niin paljon, että päästin ihan äänenkin. Ällöttäviä otuksia!! Mitä hyödyllistä tekemistä niillä muka on tässä maailmassa?! No joka tapauksessa... Toivottavasti netti toimii taas pian, sillä se ei ole toiminut kunnolla neljään päivään. Timo aikoi valittaa asiasta. Saisin ainakin nämä viestit julkaistua blogiini. Kirjoitin myös puuttuvat päivät Bangkokin ja Cha Amin reissustani – jos jotakuta kiinnostaa.

Elina left for Chiang Mai to spend her Easter holiday there. I’m going there next weekend to renew my visa so this holiday I’m just chilling at home. The day passed with a bit shortened school day, lunch and then coffee and some gingerbread cake, Katriina baked in the morning during our home ec lesson, at the Kivinen’s residence. After coffee we took Elina to the airport and on the same visit to town we stopped at 7-Eleven and Kad Gam which is a local general store but it’s a bit far from the main road (maybe 500m) so I go there rather seldom. Bad excuse, I know… I just love 7-Eleven so MUCH!
I borrowed two DVDs from the Kivinen’s: Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro). I was going to watch one today and the other one tomorrow but the story doesn’t end here. I managed to start Kiki for about 15 minutes when there was a knock on my door. There were two ‘virpoja’s all dressed up and with their beautifully decorated branches.
>>‘Virpominen’ is a tradition among children. On Palm Sundays kids dress up as Easter witches or bunnies or something and go from door to door with sprigs of willow in their hands. As a reward for the decorated branches they give to people and after reciting a special verse they are given sweets or money. Sort of like a Finnish form of ‘trick or treating’.<<
It’s not Palm Sunday but I didn’t mind. Maundy Thursday is good enough. I like the whole tradition with ‘virpoja’s. Takes me back… The girls received their sweets and stayed for a while to chat before leaving. Poor Janette had a sweater as a part of her bunny costume. The climate hasn’t changed that dramatically and so it’s still hot!
Then the girls left. Timo came by to inform that the Internet is not working… surprise, again! But the light in the ceiling of our outdoor kitchen is working. It never switches on in the evenings but the next day between 11am and 1pm. We decided with Timo that if it works the whole day and doesn’t go off in the evening, we can let it be on day and night. And now the clock is rather late, already tomorrow actually and it just still keeps lighting up the outdoor kitchen.
After the ‘virpoja’s I continued Kiki’s delivery service and just when I reached the ending song there was a knock on my door again. Rosita and Janette had changed their clothes and came back with a bottle of juice and three pieces of the gingerbread cake. We ate and then we decided to watch Totoro – actually the girls decided and I just didn’t argue. I naturally called the girls’ mom to ask for permission. Watching two Hayao Miyazaki movies in one day is quite enough, though they were entertaining.

Now I’m in the classroom again being harassed by the cockroaches. Today I actually, to my shame, took such fright that I let out a sound. Disgusting creatures!! What useful stuff do they have to do here in this world?! Well in any case… I hope the Internet works again soon because it hasn’t really for four days. Timo was going to complain about it. I could at least publish these things to my blog. I also wrote the missing days on my trip to Bangkok and Cha Am – if someone is interested.
