Tänään otin taas vaihteeksi bussin Pontypriddiin. Tutustuin nimittäin paikalliseen työterveyteen Dewi Santin sairaalassa. Aamupäivä oli hieman tylsähkö, koska muutama vastaanotto oli niin arkaluontoinen, etten voinut olla läsnä. Toisekseen täällä ihmiset jättävät usein tulematta vastaanotolle eivätkä ilmoita tai peruuta. Ymmärrän toisaalta: En minäkään ottaisi peruuttamisesta turhaa stressiä, koska palvelu on kaikesta huolimatta täysin ilmaista. Tänään vieläpä satoi niin rankasti, että olisin mieluusti jäänyt itsekin kotiin.
Edelleen ihmettelen paikallista tietosuojakäytäntöä. Arkistohuoneen ovi on avoinna käytävälle, arkistokaapit lukitaan vain yöksi. Potilaat tunnistetaan pääosin nimen ja syntymäajan mukaan, vaikka heillä olisi siis kyllä sairaalatunnuskin. Nimien kirjoitusasu muuttuu aina vähän kirjoittajan mukaan. Minulle "Maria" ja "Marie" ovat kaksi eri nimeä, kuten "Ann" ja "Anna" tai "Richardson" ja "Rikhardsson". Täällä se ei ole ilmeisesti niin tarkkaa. Ette uskokaan, kuinka monella tapaa sukunimen "Donoghue" voikaan kirjoittaa!
Ai niin, minulle tarjottiin lounas. :)

Today I took the shuttle bus down to Pontypridd for a change. I went to Dewi Sant hospital to learn about the local occupational health. The morning was slightly boring because some of the patients' issues were so sensitive that I couldn't be present. Secondly people seem to not attend quite often without notifying or cancelling. In a way I understand: I wouldn't stress over cancelling when the service is free anyway. Today I even rained quite heavily so I would've rather stayed home myself.
I'm still amazed at how they "store" confidential information here. The door to the archive is wide open to the corridor, archive drawers are locked only for the nights. Patients are mostly recognized through their name and date of birth even though they do have a hospital number as well. The spelling of the name varies a little with the writer. To me, "Maria" and "Marie" are two different names, just like "Ann" and "Anna" or "Richardson" and "Rikhardsson". Here it's not that strict. You wouldn't believe how many ways there are to spell the surname "Donoghue"!
Oh yeah, I was treated to lunch. :)
