Thailand - day 26 (MHS)

Kuumuus jatkuu... Kerron teille hieman tästä kouluelämästä täällä. Eli opetan "virallisen" suomalaisen Elina-opettajan ohella siis suomalaisen lähetysperheen kolmea suomalaista tyttöä suomeksi vuoristoisessa Luoteis-Thaimaassa, Mae Hong Son-provinssin pääkaupungissa nimeltä Mae Hong Son, mikäli se on jäänyt epäselväksi.
Kaikki ruoka on aina tuoretta. Jälkiruokaakin on!

The heat is still on... I shall tell you something about the school life here. So I teach three Finnish girls of Finnish missionaries in Finnish with Elina, their "official" teacher who's also from Finland, in the mountainous North-West Thailand in town called Mae Hong Son which is the capital of the province called Mae Hong Son, if it's been unclear so far. The subjects are exactly the same as in Finland but some things the school here is missing. For example, we don't have a laboratory for chemistry. Couple and group exercises are quite complicated to carry out for each class has only one student. Some couple exercises can be done with the teacher if there's enough time. Art, music, home ec and craft resources are not always as high standard as they are in Finland. We can't do clay work for example. But we do our best!
Some things replace the shortcomings though: Today when the lunch break started, we rushed to the dining hall where the table had already been set for us - no useless queuing. The students, ie. the girls have a relatively great impact on what is being made every day: sometimes we have Finnish food but mostly delicacies of Thai cuisine: Som Tam, Khao Phat, Khao Soy, Green curry... All meals are always fresh. And there's always dessert! Usually fresh pineapple, papaya, mango...
And that is not all: Today we had PE in the afternoon. There's a chance to play basketball or volleyball but it's not really popular for the quality of the equipment. Indoor season is quite entertaining: TV, gymnastic exercises videos and dance pad (you know Dance Dance Revolution) will get you sweatty in this weather. But today we started the outdoor season. In Finland it means Finnish baseball, yay...!? There's a photo of our lesson in the end of this blog entry. I took it during the warm-up in the beginning. We did do the warm up in the end as well but I was too exhausted to photograph that anymore.
